Multimodal structural optimization for conceptual design

چکیده

The paper describes an optimization method to support the conceptual stages of structural design. The method, called Blended Close Harmony Search, is a population-based metaheuristic approach that incorporates the following key features: 1) decision variable types that include real numbers defining geometry, discrete structural sections, and topology variables of enumeration (e.g. how many bays in a frame); 2) high-level control of geometry using a parametric CAD program (Grasshopper), so that a single variable can control the location of hundreds of nodes; and 3) a search method that promotes diversity by preventing convergence to one solution, and seeking out, rather than avoiding, local optima. The method is demonstrated on a pedestrian bridge structure, using a three-dimensional lattice for support. Optimization and parametric modelling to support conceptual structural design

The paper describes software combining parametric geometric modeling with a version of the harmony search method, modified to support multimodal structural optimization. Researchers have recognized the potential of population-based optimization methods, such as genetic algorithms, to support multimodal optimization: that is, generating a diverse range of good alternative solutions, rather than ...

A Multiobjective Evolutionary Conceptual Clustering Methodology for Gene Annotation Within Structural Databases: A Case of Study on the Gene Ontology Database

Current tools and techniques devoted to examine the content of large databases are often hampered by their inability to support searches based on criteria that are meaningful to their users. These shortcomings are particularly evident in data banks storing representations of structural data such as biological networks. Conceptual clustering techniques have demonstrated to be appropriate for unc...

Fuzzy particle swarm optimization with nearest-better neighborhood for multimodal optimization

In the last decades, many efforts have been made to solve multimodal optimization problems using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). To produce good results, these PSO algorithms need to specify some niching parameters to define the local neighborhood. In this paper, our motivation is to propose the novel neighborhood structures that remove undesirable niching parameters without sacrificing perf...
